Biodiversity by Human Hand
Neobiota. Biologists use this term to describe living organisms that spread into a new habitat. In the mountains, discarded waste is an intrusive foreign element. The working group “Müll.Berge” at AVS took on the task of addressing the issue of mountain waste in an original and ironic way. Three subprojects were initiated:
– A film follows "waste researchers," scientists conducting field studies in the mountains who make unexpected discoveries. The film is titled "Neobiota. In Search of New Species."
– An awareness campaign targeting the "waste producers" on-site, consisting of signs and stickers. These are placed in summit registers, cable car stations, waiting rooms, buses, and other locations.
– A traveling exhibition designed to be shown flexibly in a variety of locations, such as leisure fairs, lift stations, museums, schools, and environmental education centers.
DESIGN CONCEPT
Our task was to develop the corporate design and the traveling exhibition. For this purpose, six modules were created. These wooden containers serve both as exhibition furniture and transport units, housing display cases, touchscreen monitors, audio stations, interactive hands-on elements, and also functioning as gaming or work tables.
The design is reminiscent of rudimentary transport crates. Graphics are printed directly onto the wooden surface. The modules are designed to be minimalistic and eco-friendly, easily transportable by car, and simple to assemble.
