A “dusty” subject, a complex historical environment, a forgotten genre: dedicating a museum to Walther von der Vogelweide, the minstrel, in his (probable) place of origin Lajen (South Tyrol, Italy) is no easy task, because today we lack access to the Middle Ages on the one hand and to the life and work of a minstrel on the other.
The Minnehus is therefore dedicated to the “modern” aspects of Walther: his life as a professional artist on tour, his work as a political communicator in the service of the major players of his time and his role as a literary pioneer, the forefather of love songs and poems. These subjects are still relevant today and build a bridge to Walther and his time.
In conveying the subjects in the Minnehus, a minus becomes a plus. After all, there are no objects by and about Walther, nothing that could be exhibited. However, an exhibition without objects gives freedom and this has been fully utilized in the communication and design: with playful elements, hands-on stations, maximum interaction and a visual language that clearly emphasises the similarities between Walther's world and today's world.
